BYMS-61 was built for Great Britain.

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 7 December 1942 as BYMS-61 by Westergard Boat Works, Inc., Biloxi, MS
  • Launched 5 May 1943
  • Completed 29 September 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 30 September 1943 and reclassified J-861
  • Reclassified BYMS-2061 and commanded by Lt. E. T. Garside, RNVR
  • Returned to U.S. custody 3 Septemnber 1946
  • Struck from the Naval Register 10 June 1947
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in October 1947 and sold at Subic Bay, Philippines
  • Fate unknown.

  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
