BYMS-68 served the Navies of Great Britain and Greece.
BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 30 April 1942 as BYMS-68 by Wheeler Shipbuilding Corp., Whitestone, NY
  • Launched 9 February 1943
  • Completed 16 March 1943, transferred to Great Britain and named HMS J-868
  • Renamed HMS BYMS-2068
  • Returned to U.S. custody 18 May 1946, transferred to Greece and renamed Lafkas (M 206) the same day
  • Transferred outright to Greece 22 July 1952
  • Struck from the Naval Register 8 August 1952
  • Struck from the Greek registry in 1968
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
