BYMS-77 was built for Great Britain.

BYMS-1 Class Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 3 October 1942 as BYMS-77 by Wheeler Shipbuilding Corp., Whitestone, NY
  • Launched 15 May 1943
  • Completed and transferred to Great Britain as HMS J-877 6 July 1943
  • Renamed HMS BYMS-2077
  • Sunk by mine in the Gulf of Corinth 24 October 1944.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth chrage projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
