YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 21 May 1942 as YMS-212 by Robert Jacobs Inc., City Island, NY
  • Launched 16 October 1942
  • Completed 29 May 1943, transferred to the Royal Navy and reclassified HMS J-1012
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2212
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in May 1947
  • Returned to U.S. custody 6 June 1947
  • Struck from the Naval Register 10 June 1947
  • Transferred to Egypt in 1949 and named Kordofan
  • Discarded in 1970.

  • Displacement 270 t.
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
