YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 25 January 1943 as YMS-280 by Henry C. Grebe and Co., Chicago, IL
  • Launched 12 August 1943
  • Completed 16 October 1943
  • Transferred to Great Britain 30 October 1943 and reclassified HMS J-1080
  • Reclassified HMS BYMS-2280
  • Struck from the Naval Register 28 August 1947, transferred to Italy and named Verbena
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission in November 1947
  • Struck from the Italian Navy list in 1966
  • Fate unknown.

  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
