YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 10 June 1943 by Associated Shipbuilders, Lake Union, Seattle, WA
  • Launched 11 August 1943
  • Commissioned USS YMS-294, 11 September 1943
  • Completed and delivered 9 November 1943
  • Decommissioned 12 November 1945 and placed in service at New Orleans, LA
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists plan for placing in service as a Naval Reserve training ship in the 8th Naval District (New Orleans) as September 1947
  • Named Redpoll and reclassified as a Motor Minesweeper, AMS-57, 1 September 1947
  • Recommissioned 20 November 1950
  • Reclassified a Coastal Minesweeper (Old), MSC(O)-57, 7 February 1955
  • Decommissioned 8 November 1957 and placed in service as a Naval Reserve training ship at Chattanooga, TN
  • Placed out of service and struck from the Navy Register 1 July 1959
  • Converted to an Oceanographic Research Vessel in 1960, renamed Sir Horace Lamb and assigned to Columbia University's Geophysical Field Station, Saint David's, Bermuda
  • Scrapped 1 December 1976.
