YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 8 March 1943 as YMS-344 by the Bellingham Marine Railway and Boat Building Co., Bellingham, WA
  • Launched 4 June 1943
  • Reclassified as a District Degaussing Vessel, YDG-6, 12 August 1943
  • Commissioned USS YDG-6, 14 January 1944
  • Seriously damaged in typhoon Louise 9 October 1945 at Okinawa
  • Decommissioned 1 July 1946
  • Transferred to the War Shipping Administration in November 1947
  • Sold 5 November 1947 to the Alaska Pipe and Salvage Co. of Long Beach, CA and named Joe M
  • Fate unknown.

  • Armament: Two 20mm mounts
