YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper:

  • Laid down 10 May 1943 as a Patrol Craft Sweeper, PCS-1443 by the Harbor Boatbuilding Co., Terminal Island, CA
  • Reclassified as an Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper, YMS-473, 27 September 1943
  • Launched 22 April 1944
  • Completed 22 August 1944
  • Struck from the Naval Register 19 June 1946
  • Transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission; sold to South Korea 24 July 1947 and named Gowon (YMS 517)
  • Sunk in 1948.

  • Draft 8'
  • Speed 15 kts.
  • Complement 32
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, two 20mm mounts, and two depth charge projectors
