PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 10 August 1941 by George Lawley and Sons, Inc., Neponset, Massachusetts
  • Launched 27 February 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-463, 29 April 1942
  • Reclassified as a Control Submarine Chaserl, PCC-463, 20 August 1945
  • Damaged by grounding during Typhoon Louise in October 1945
  • Repaired at Yokosuka, Japan
  • Decommissioned 1 March 1947 at Green Cove Springs, FL and laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, Florida Group
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists plan for decommissioning and placing in reserve as January 1947
  • Sunk as a target 20 July 1953, approximately 75 miles north west of Key West, FL (at position 25° 56' 48"N, 82° 52' 30" W) by USS Trutta (SS 421) using an experimental Mk 28 torpedo
  • PC-463 earned two battle stars for the Iwo Jima and Okinawa landings during World War II.
