PC-544 served the Navies of the United States and Brazil

PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 24 March 1942 by the Defoe Boat and Motor Works, Bay City, MI
  • Launched 30 May 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-544, 5 June 1942
  • Transferred to Brazil 24 September 1942 and Guaporé (CS 1) at Natal, Brazil
  • Reclassified G-1 after World War II
  • Decommissioned 4 January 1958
  • Transferred to the Brazilian Army 5 February 1958 to serve as a munitions transport
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 173' 8"
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 20.2 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, three 20mm guns, two Mousetrap depth charge projectors, four K-gun depth charge projectors and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 2,880bhp General Motors 16-258S diesel engines (Serial No. 6355 and 6356), Farrel-Birmingham single reduction gear, two shafts.
