PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 25 November 1941 at Jeffersonville Boat and Machine Co., Jeffersonville, IN
  • Launched 17 November 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-560, 17 June 1943 at New Orleans, LA
  • During World War II, PC-560 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater
  • Placed in service as a Naval Reserve Training vessel in December 1945 assigned to the 8th Naval District (New Orleans)
  • Decommissioned 28 January 1947 at Green Cove Springs, FL and laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, Florida Group
  • Named Oberlin 1 February 1956
  • Struck from the Navy Register 5 September 1957 and sold for scrap to F. and A. Transportation of New Jersey, Inc., New York, NY.

  • Displacement 295 t.(lt), 450 t.(fl)
  • Length 173' 8"
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 20.2 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 40mm gun mount;, three 20mm guns, two rocket launchers, four depth charge projectors, and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,440bhp General Motors 16-258S diesel engines (Serial No. 6339 and 7788), Farrel-Birmingham single reduction gear, two shafts.
