PC-492 served the Navies of the United States and Venezuela.

PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 27 September 1941 by the Albina Engine and Machine Works Inc., Portland, Oregon
  • Launched 23 February 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-572, 19 June 1942
  • On 2 December 1942 the SS Trevalgan, a 5,299 ton freighter was torpedoed by the German submarine U-508 in the Atlantic, southeast of Trinidad at position 09° 40' N., 59° 15'W. while sailing
    independently from Suez to New York via Cape Town, South Africa and Trinidad. PC-572 rescued the Master, the crew of 33 and nine gunners, and landed them at Trinidad 3 December 1942
  • Named Tooele 15 February 1956
  • Decommissioned 9 February 1959 at Green Cove Springs, Florida and laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, Florida Group, Green Cove Springs
  • Struck from the Navy Register 1 July 1960
  • Sold to Venezuela in October 1960
  • Tooele was never refitted, but used for spare parts and later scrapped.

  • Propulsion: Two 1,440bhp Fairbanks Morse 38D8 1/8 diesel engines (Serial No. 832265 and 832266), Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
