PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 29 April 1942 at Albina Engine and Machine Works, Portland, Oregon
  • Launched 25 August 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-1079, 7 March 1943
  • Scuttled LCT-984, 15 May 1944 which foundered after breaking away from her moorings as deck cargo on board an LST in the Hawaiian Operating Area during an amphibious training exercise
  • Reclassified as a Control Submarine Chaser, PCC-1079 in August 1945
  • Decommissioned in March 1946 at Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, WA and laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, Columbia River Group
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists plan for decommissioning and placing in reserve as January 1947
  • Named Ludington 15 February 1956
  • Struck from the Navy Register 1 July 1960
  • Sold for scrap 13 March 1961 to Marine Power and Equipment Co. of Seattle, WA.

  • Length 173' 8"
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 20.2 kts.
  • Complement 65
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 40mm gun mount, three 20mm guns, two rocket launchers, four depth charge projectors, and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,440bhp Fairbanks Morse 38D8 1/8 diesel engines, Westinghouse single reduction gear, two shafts.
