Anacortes served the Navies of the United States and South Vietnam.
PC-461 Class Submarine Chaser: Laid down 26 September 1944 at Leatham D. Smith Shipbuilding Co., Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., the last PC built by the Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Co.; Launched, 9 December 1944; Commissioned USS PC-1569, 14 March 1945 at New Orleans, La.; Decommissioned, 9 August 1946 at Astoria, Oregon; Laid up in the Pacific Reserve Fleet, Columbia River Group, Astoria; Named Anacortes 15 February 1956; Struck from the Navy Register 1 June 1960; Transferred to South Vietnamese Navy at Seattle, WA, 23 November 1960 as HQVNCH Van Don (HQ 06). Fate unknown.
Specifications: Displacement 295 t.(lt) 450 t.(fl); Length 173' 8"; Beam 23'; Draft 10' 10"; Speed 20.2 kts.; Complement 65; Armament one 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount, one 40mm gun mount, five 20mm guns, two depth charge projectors, two depth charge tracks; Propulsion two 2,880bhp General Motors 16-278A diesel engines (Serial No. 55571 & 55572), Farrel-Birmingham single reduction gear, two shafts.
