PC-1611


PC-1611 was built in France.

PC-1604 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 4 May 1954 by Forges et Ch. de la Mediterranee, La Seyne, France for the French Navy using "offshore" funds
  • Delivered, 3 November 1955
  • Commissioned L'Opiniatre (P 642), 13 December 1954
  • Decommissioned 21 October 1975 and returned to U.S. Navy
  • Sold for scrap in 1977 at Rotterdam, The Netherlands and resold as a yacht
  • Used to smuggle 15 tons of drugs from the Middle East (Lebanon) to The Netherlands. Cargo dumped overboard near the coast
  • Eventually sold for scrap in 1983 near Zaandam, The Netherlands. Some engine parts used to restore sister vessel Le Fougueux (P 641), ex-PC-1610.

  • Displacement 402 t.
  • Length 175'
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 10' 10"
  • Speed 18.7 kts.
  • Complement 63
  • Armament: One 40-mm mount; two 20-mm mounts - Between 1959 and 1962 she was armed with Mk15 Hedgehog rocket launchers, four depth charge projectors and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Four 3,240 hp direct-reversible SEMT-Pielstick 14-cylinder diesel engines, two shafts.
