PC-1610 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down as PC-1617 at Normandie, Le Havre, France with Off Shore Procurement under the terms of the Military Defense Assistance Pact
  • Launched and delivered 7 June 1955
  • Transferred to Portugal and named Sao Nicolau (P 8)
  • Reclassified P-589
  • Fate unknown.

  • Length 170'
  • Beam 23'
  • Draft 9'
  • Speed 17.5 kts.
  • Complement 62
  • Armament: Two twin 40mm mounts, two twin 20mm mounts, one Hedgehog and two mine rails
  • Propulsion: Four 3,240bhp SEMT-Pielstick diesel engines, two shafts.
