PC-1618


PC-1618 served the Navies of West Germany and Tunisia.

PC-1618 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down as PC-1618 by Societe Anonyme des Amiens Chantiers, Dubigeon, France for the West German Navy using "offshore" funds
  • Reclassified P-7
  • Transferred to West Germany 12 March 1957 and placed in service for use as a training ship at the Underwater Weapons School
  • Reclassified as an Underwater Weapons Training Ship, UW-12
  • Reclassified as a Patrol Craft (Wachboot), W-51
  • Between 1963 and 1965 W-51 was used for testing the GWS-20 Seacat SAM, an optical guided AA-missile
  • Purchased by Tunisia 16 June 1970 and renamed Sakiet Sidi Youssef (P 303)
  • Scrapped in mid-1980s.

  • Complement 63
  • Armament: One 40mm mount and two 20mm mounts. Between 1959 and 1962 she was armed with a Mk15 Hedgehog rocket launchers, four depth charge projectors and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Four 3,240hp SEMT-Pielstick 14-cylinder diesel engines, two controllable pitch propellers, two shafts.
