80' Elco Motor Torpedo Boat:

  • Laid down 17 December 1942 by the Electric Boat Co., Elco Works, Bayonne, NJ
  • Launched 25 February 1943
  • Completed 17 March 1943
  • Placed in service 18 March 1943 and assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron FIVE (MTBRon 5) under the command of LCDR Henry Farrow, USN
  • MTBRon 5 was assigned to Panama Sea Frontier from September 1942 until the spring of 1943, when it was shipped to the Solomons
  • Transferred 15 April 1943 to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron FOUR (MTBRon 4) under the command of LCDR S. Stephen Daunis, USN
  • MTBRon 4, was the training squadron, based at the MTB Squadrons Training Center, Melville, R.I. It was the largest squadron, having a peak of 28 boats in service at one time. When the training center was decommissioned early
    in 1946, MTBRon 4 was assigned to the Operational Development Force, and based at Solomons, Maryland
  • The "Melville Express" was placed out of service 16 January 1946
  • Struck from the Naval Register 7 February 1946
  • Transferred to the War Shipping Administration 29 December 1947
  • Acquired in 1953 by the Florida Sightseeing Boat Co. of Miami Beach, FL and named Nikko I
  • Fate unknown.
