BPT-62 was built for Great Britain

BPT-21 Class Motor Torpedo Boat:

  • Laid down 20 February 1943 as BPT-62 by Annapolis Yacht Yard, Annapolis, MD
  • Launched 17 May 1943
  • Completed 30 September 1943, transferred to Great Britain and named HM MTB-372
  • Sunk by surface gunfire 24 July 1944 when patrolling off Cape Loviste in the Adriatic Sea
    Naval Vessel Register of 1 January 1949 lists loss date as 13 November 1944.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 49 t.
  • Length 73'
  • Speed 40 kts.
  • Armament: Two 18" torpedoes, one 20mm mount and two .303 cal. Vickers machine guns
  • Propulsion: Three 1,500shp Packard W-14 M2500 gasoline engines, three shafts.
