PCS-1376 Class Patrol Craft Sweeper:

  • Laid down 25 January 1943 as PC-1413 by the Stadium Yacht Basin, Cleveland, OH
  • Reclassified PCS-1413 in April 1943
  • Launched 21 August 1943
  • Commissioned USS PCS-1413, 16 November 1943
  • Completed 22 November 1943
  • Named Elsmere, 15 February 1956 (after a town in New Castle County, Delaware)
  • Reclassified as an Experimental Patrol Craft Sweeper, EPCS-1413
  • Decommissioned 1 October 1960 and struck from the Naval Register
  • Fate Sank while in storage in Miami FL and scrapped.

  • Displacement 245 t.(lt) 338 t.(fl)
  • Length 136'
  • Beam 24' 6"
  • Draft 8' 7"
  • Speed 14.1 kts.
  • Complement 57
  • Armament: One 3"/50 dual purpose mount, one 40mm gun mount, two 20mm gun mounts, four depth charge projectors, one depth charge projector (hedgehog), and two depth charge tracks
    1952 - Replaced 3"/50 with one Hedgehog depth charge projector, removed 40mm and 20mm mounts, four depth charge projectors and extra Hedgehog
  • Propulsion: Two 800bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
