PCS-1376 Class Patrol Craft Sweeper:

  • Laid down 17 March 1943 as PC-1445 by the Mojean and Ericson Shipbuilding Corp., Tacoma, WA
  • Reclassified PCS-1445 in April 1943
  • Launched 4 September 1943
  • Commissioned USS PCS-1445, 8 February 1944 at Tacoma
  • Departed U.S. in April 1944 for the Pacific war area
  • Served with the 7th Fleet June 1944 - April 1945
  • Reclassified as a Control Submarine Chaser, PCSC-1455, 20 August 1945
  • Harbor entrance control vessel for the Yangtze River, Shanghai, China October 1945 - May 1946
  • Returned to San Francisco, CA in July 1946
  • Decommissioned 2 April 1947
  • Transferred to the War Shipping Administration in April 1948, sold to the Brown and Root Co. of Houston, TX, named Margarett Root and served as an off-shore exploration vessel until 1969
  • Donated to Texas A & M University in 1969
  • Sold for scrap 6 March 1970 to Service Marine, Inc of Galveston, TX.

  • Propulsion: Two 800bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
