Muskegon served the Navies of the United States and France.
Tacoma Class Patrol Frigate: (MC Type T. S2-S2-AQ1) Originally authorized as Patrol Gunboat, PG-132; Redesignated a Patrol Frigate, PF-24, 15 April 1943; Laid down, 11 May 1943 under a Maritime Commission contract, at Walter Butler Shipbuilding Co., Superior, Wisc.; Launched, 25 July 1943; Commissioned USS Muskegon (PF-24), 19 February 1944; Decommissioned, 15 March 1946, transferred on loan to the Coast Guard and recommissioned USCG Muskegon (WPF-24); Decommissioned by the Coast Guard and returned to U. S. Navy custody, 27 August 1946; Sold to France, 26 March 1947 as Mermoz (F-14); Struck from the Naval Register, 23 April 1947; Scrapped by France in the late 1950s.
Specifications: Displacement 1,430 t.; Length, 303' 11" (oa); Bean 37' 6"; Draft 13' 8"; Speed 20.3 kts.; Complement 190; Armament two 3"/50 dual purpose gun mounts (the after 3-inch gun was removed and a weather balloon hanger was added), two twin 40mm gun mounts , nine 20mm guns, one Hedgehog depth charge projector, eight Y-gun depth charge projectors, two depth charge racks; Propulsion two 3-drum express boilers, two 5,500ihp J. Hendy Iron Works vertical triple expansion steam engines, two shafts.
