Uniontown served the Navies of the United States and Argentina.
Tacoma Class Patrol Frigate: (MC Type T. S2-S2-AQ1) Originally authorized as Patrol Gunboat, PG-173; Redesignated as a Patrol Frigate, PF-65, 15 April 1943; Laid down, 21 April 1943 under Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1489) at Leatham D. Smith Shipyard, Sturgeon Bay, Wisc.; Launched as Chattanooga 7 August 1943; Renamed Uniontown 16 August 1944; Commissioned USS Uniontown (PF-65), 6 October 1944 at New Orleans, LA; Decommissioned, 20 December 1945 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth VA.; Struck from the Naval Register, 8 January 1946; Turned over to the State Department Liquidation Commission; Sold in July 1947 to Argentina as Sarandi (P 33) and served until 1968; Dropped from Jane's Fighting Ships by 1982.
Fate unknown.
Specifications: Displacement 1,430 t.; Length, 303' 11"(oa); Beam 37' 6"; Draft 13' 8"; Speed 20.3 kts.; Complement 214; Armament three 3"/50 dual purpose gun mounts (after 3-inch gun was removed and a weather balloon hanger was added aft), two twin 40mm gun mounts, nine 20mm guns, one Hedgehog depth charge projector, eight Y-gun depth charge projectors, two depth charge racks (Armament in Argentine Navy was two 4.1" mounts eight 40mm mounts, one Hedgehog and six depth charge tracks); Propulsion two 3-drum express boilers, two 5,500 iHP Valley Iron Works engines, two shafts.
