Tacoma Class Patrol Frigate/British Colony Class Frigate:

  • (MC Type T. S2-S2-AQ1) Originally authorized as Patrol Gunboat, PG-195
  • Reclassified as a Patrol Frigate, PF-87
  • Laid down 25 October 1943 under a Maritime Commission contract (MC hull 1669) by the Welsh-Kaiser Co., Inc., Providence, RI
  • Assigned to the Royal Navy under the Lend-Lease Program and named Patton
  • Launched 5 February 1944
  • Delivered 18 July 1944 and transferred to Great Britain as HMS Sarawak (K 591)
  • Returned to U.S. custody 22 May 1946
  • Scrapped in August 1947.

    Namesake:

    The Crown Colony of Sarawak was a British Crown colony on the island of Borneo, established in 1946, shortly after the dissolution of the British Military Administration. It was succeeded as the state of Sarawak through the formation of the Federation of Malaysia on 16 September 1963
