Quiros Class Gunboat: Laid down in September 1895 by Whampoa Dock Co., Hong Kong, China for the Spanish Navy; Launched in June 1896; Captured by the U.S. Army at Manila Philippines in 1898; Acquired by the Navy 21 February 1900; Commissioned USS Quiros (Gunboat No. 40), 5 March 1900 at Cavite Navy Yard, Philippines; Decommissioned at Cavite Navy Yard 2 January 1904; Recommissioned 2 September 1904; Decommissioned at Cavite Navy Yard 11 March 1908; Recommissioned 11 October 1910; Designated PG-40, 17 July 1920; Decommissioned in August 1923 at Shanghai, China; Sunk as a target 10 October 1923.

Specifications: Displacement 350 t; Length 148'; Beam 22' 9"; Draft 7' 9"; Speed 11 kts; Complement 44; Armament two 6-pounders and two 3-pounders - (1910) none; Propulsion two single-ended Scotch boilers, one 450ihp vertical triple-expansion engine, one shaft.
