British Flower Class Corvette/Action Class Patrol Gunboat: Laid down as CN305 by the Collingwood Shipyard, Collingwood, Ontario, Canada; Named HMS Cornel (K 278); Acquired by the U.S. Navy 6 January 1942; Launched 4 September 1942; Commissioned USS Alacrity (PG 87), 10 December 1942; Decommissioned 4 October 1945 at Charleston, SC; Struck from the Navy list 24 October 1945; Transferred to the War Shipping Administration 22 September 1947; Sold to Societe Anonima Navigazione Toscana, Livorno, Italy (Cameli group) and renamed Rio Marina; Renamed Portoferraio (the chief town of Elba Island). Fate unknown.

Specifications: Displacement 1,375 t.; Length 205'; Beam 33'; Draft 14' 7"; Speed 16.5 kts; Complement 90; Armament two 3"/50 dual purpose gun mounts, two 20mm gun mounts and two dct; Propulsion two 240psi 3-drum express boilers, one 2,750ihp Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co. verticle triple expansion engine,
one shaft.
