British River Class Frigate:

  • Laid down in 1943 as PG-110 for the U.S. Navy at Canadian Vickers, Ltd., Montreal, Canada
  • Launched 29 September 1943
  • Transferred to the Royal Navy before completion under the lend-lease program and named HMS Shiel (K 305)
  • Returned to U.S. Navy custody 2 March 1946 at Boston, Massachusetts and reclassified PG-110
  • Struck from the Navy Register 8 May 1946 and transferred to the Maritime Commission for disposal
  • Sold in December 1946
  • Fate unknown.

  • Beam 36.5'
  • Draft 13'
  • Speed 20 kts.
  • Complement 107
  • Armament: Two 4"/40 mounts, ten 20mm guns, two depth charge tracks and one hedgehog depth charge projector
  • Propulsion: Two Admiralty 3-drum express boilers, one 5,500ihp reciprocating vertical triple expansion engine, one shaft.
