Gunboat Sandoval

Sandoval served both the U. S. Navy and the New York State Naval Militia.

Alverado Class Gunboat: Built in 1895 by the Clydebank Engine and Shipbuilding Co., Clydebank Scotland for the Spanish Navy; Launched 20 September 1895; Captured 17 July 1898 by U.S. Navy at Santiago de Cuba; Commissioned 2 September 1898; Decommissioned 10 May 1899; Recommissioned 14 October 1900; Decommissioned 22 March 1906; Loaned to New York State Naval Militia 16 November 1906; Struck from the Navy Register 23 July 1919; Sold 30 September 1919 to Charles S. Neff of Milwaukee, WI; Rebuilt in 1920 and registered as a yacht; Registered in 1924 as a freighter; Sold in 1927 to William C. Temme of Kiel, WI; Abandoned in Kinnikinik River, Milwaukee in 1932.

Specifications: Displacement 106 t; Length 116' 10"; Beam 15' 6"; Draft 6' 3"; Speed 19 kts; Complement 21; Armament two 3-pounders and two Colt machine guns.
