Hydrographer served both the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey and U.S. Navy.


Patrol Yacht/Survey Ship: Built 1928 by the Spear Engine Works, Norfolk, VA; Acquired by the Navy from the Coast and Geodetic Survey 15 April 1942 and classified as a Patrol Yacht, PY-30; Reclassified as a Survey Ship, AGS-2; Converted for Naval service at Choctaw Boat Works, Chactaw AL; Commissioned USS Hydrographer (AGS-2), 20 May 1942 at Mobile, AL; Decommissioned 1 July 1946 at Norfolk, VA; Returned to the Coast and Geodetic Survey.
Fate unknown.

Specifications: Displacement 1,135 t.; Length 164' 11"; Beam 31' 6" ; Draft 13' 10"; Speed 10 kts.; Complement 92; Armament one 3"/50 dual purpose gun mount; Propulsion one 650shp Winton 145 diesel engine, diesel electric drive, one shaft.
