Coastal Patrol Yacht: Built 1938 as Stranger by the Lake Union Dry Dock Co., Seattle, WA; Acquired by the Navy 1 July 1941; Placed in service as USS Jasper (PYc-13), 8 July 1941 at San Diego, CA; Placed out of service 14 August 1947 at San Diego; Transferred to the Maritime Commission for disposal in June 1948; Donated to the Scripps Instituition of Oceanography 22 April 1955 by N. A. Kessler; Renamed Stranger; Sold 9 March 1965 to Charles H. Briley of Newport Beach, CA; Later in use by the Teledyne Corporation; Operated as the cruise ship Explorer in 1976. Fate unknown.
Specifications: Displacement 395 t.; Length 134' ; Beam 23' 10"; Draft 16' 6"; Speed 12 kts.; Armament two 3"/50 dual purpose mounts; Propulsion two 800shp Washington diesel engines, two shafts.
