Coastal Patrol Yacht: Built in 1926 as the yacht Sylvia for Logan G. Thomson of Charlevoix, MI by the Defoe Boat and Motor Works, Bay City, MI; Sold to R.E. Olds of Lansing, MI and renamed Reomar IV; Acquired by the Navy from the Maritime Commission, 12 March 1942; Commissioned USS Ability
(PYc 28), 28 September 1942; Decommissioned 29 September 1944 and placed in service; Placed out of service 19 September 1945; Struck from the Navy Register 1 October 1945; Transferred to the Maritime Commission 18 May 1946. Fate unknown.
Specifications: Displacement 280 t.; Length 133' ; Beam 21' 6"; Draft 8'; Speed 13k; Complement 43; Armament undetermined number of 20mm mounts and three .50 cal. machine guns; Propulsion two 300shp Cooper Bessemer 8-G6M R diesel engines, two shafts.
