Coastal Patrol Yacht:

  • Built in 1941 as the yacht Vagrant at Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine for Harold Sterling Vanderbilt of New York
  • Delivered 13 September 1941
  • Acquired by the Navy 23 March 1942 and designated a District Patrol Craft, YP-258
  • Converted for Naval service at Robert Jacobs, Inc., City Island, NY
  • Reclassified as a Coastal Patrol Yacht, PYc-30 in April 1942
  • Commissioned USS Vagrant (PYc-30), 9 May 1942 under the command of LTJG George T. Elliman, USNR
  • Decommissioned 29 December 1943 and placed in service as a training vessel
  • Placed out of service 6 August 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 1 September 1945
  • Transferred to the War Shipping Administration 14 December 1945 for disposal
  • Sold in 1946 to William B. Leeds of New York and renamed Moana
  • Sold back to Harold Vanderbilt in 1947
  • Sold in 1948 to Ralph C. Allen of Oyster Bay, NY and renamed Vagrant
  • Sold in 1952 to the Orion Shipping and Trading Co. of New York and operated out of Tortola, British West Indies
  • Her name disappears from Lloyds Register of Yachts in 1947
  • Operated under the Liberian flag in 1955
  • Fate unknown.
