Sea Scout served both the U. S. Coast Guard and Navy.

Coastal Patrol Yacht: Built in 1922 as the yacht Velero II by William Muller of Wilmington, CA expressly for Captain Alan Hancock, an early benefactor of the University of Southern California; Acquired by the Navy from the Coast Guard, 24 December 1942; Commissioned USS Sea Scout (PYc-43), 15 March 1943; Decommissioned 15 May 1944; Laid up at Frontier Base, San Diego and transferred to the War Shipping Administration 17 July 1944 for disposal; Struck from the Navy list 14 October 1944; Sold 6 April 1945 to her former owners, Velero II, Inc. and renamed Velero II. Fate unknown.

Specifications: Displacement 195 t.; Length 125' 6" ; Beam 20'; Draft 7'.
