SC-435 served only in the Coast Guard.


SC-1 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Built as SC-435 by Alexander McDonald, Mariners Harbor, NY
  • Never commissioned
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 21 October 1919 and commissioned USCGC Johansson
  • Named for a member of the torpedoed USCGC Tampa, lost during World War I
  • Loaned to the Prohibition Commissioner in March 1922
  • Sold 27 December 1922
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 77 t.
  • Length 110"
  • Beam 13' 6"
  • Draft 6' 3"
  • Speed 18 kts.
  • Complement 17
  • Armament: One 3"/23 gun mount, two .30 cal. machine guns, and one depth charge projector "Y Gun"
  • Propulsion: Three 220shp Standard gasoline engines, three shafts.
