SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 17 November 1941 by the Inland Waterways, Inc., Duluth, MN
  • Launched 6 July 1942
  • Delivered 2 September 1942 and commissioned USS PC-670
  • Reclassified SC-670 in April 1943
  • Decommissioned 19 March 1946, transferred to the Coast Guard and commissioned USCGC Air Grebe (WAVR 426)
  • Struck from the Naval Register 28 March 1946
  • Sold 19 January 1948 to Arthur V. Nelson of Seattle, WA for use as a fishing boat and renamed Grebe
  • Acquired in 1949 by Trygve A. Roth of Seattle
  • Acquired in 1951 by William M. Everitt of Seattle
  • Acquired in 1980 by Ted Morehouse of Cordova, AK for use as a freighter
  • Acquired in 1989 by Francis O. Samuelson of Cordova
  • Out of documentation in 2000
  • Fate unknown.

  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "Y Guns," and two depth charge tracks
