SC-739 served the Navies of the United States and the Philippines.

SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 20 March 1942 by Julius Petersen, Nyack, NY
  • Launched 4 July 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-739, 31 October 1942
  • Reclassified SC-739 in April 1943
  • Struck from the Naval Register 26 February 1946
  • Transferred to the Philippines in May 1948 and named Ilocus Sur (P 16)
  • Scrapped.

  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6" (fl)
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, one/two twin mount .50 cal. machine guns, two/three dcp "K Guns", 14 depth charges with six single release chocks and two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles
  • Propulsion: Two 1,000bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
