SC-1013 served both the U. S. Navy and the Coast Guard.

SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 23 March 1942 as PC-1013 by Luders Marine Construction Co., Stamford, CT
  • Launched 22 July 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-1013, 21 September 1942
  • Reclassified SC-1013 in April 1943
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 23 October 1945 and commissioned USCGC Air Petrel (WAVR 448)
  • Sold 2 November 1947 as a sightseeing and tour boat on Lake Champlain in upstate New York and named Mount Independence
  • Sold in 1989 to Bruce P. Keller of Baltimore, MD
  • As of 2005 she is for sale by Mr. Keller
  • Sank at the dock behind Mr. Keller's home after dock was destroyed by a storm.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 105 t.
  • Length 110'
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6" (fl)
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, one/two twin mount .50 cal. machine guns, two/three depth charge projector "K Guns", 14 depth charges with six single release chocks and two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap
    rails with four 7.2 projectiles
  • Propulsion two 1,540bhp General Motors 16-184A diesel engines two shafts.
