SC-1015 served both the U. S. Navy and Coast Guard

SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 4 May 1942 by Luders Marine Construction Co., Stamford, CT
  • Launched 30 August 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-1015, 20 October 1942
  • Reclassified SC-1015 in April 1943
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 11 October 1945 and commissioned USCGC Air Pheasant (WAVR 449)
  • Struck from the Naval Register 28 November 1945
  • Sold 14 January 1948 to the Morton Salt Co’s and used in the Bahamas as a mail freighter between Nassau, the capital, and Great Inagua, servicing several other islands like Rum Cay, Long Island and
    Crooked and Fortune Islands
  • Scrapped in 1982.

  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "Y Guns," and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,540bhp General Motors (Electro-Motive Div.) 16-184A diesel engines, two shafts.
