SC-1017 served both the U. S. Navy and Coast Guard

SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 8 June 1942 by Luders Marine Construction Co., Stamford, CT
  • Launched 28 October 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-1017, 29 December 1942 under the command of ENS Donald M. Taber, USNR
  • Reclassified SC-1017 in April 1943
  • Rescued survivors of the U.S. tanker Elizabeth Kelloggg 24 November 1943 that was torpedoed two days before by the German submarine U-516 about 150 miles north of Cristobal, Canal Zone
  • Decommissioned 1 July 1945
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 30 October 1945 and commissioned USCGC Air Pigeon (WAVR 451)
  • Struck from the Naval Register 16 November 1945
  • Sold 7 October 1947
  • Acquired in 1950 by Louis Miliman of Baltimore, MD for use as a freighter and renamed Voyager
  • Acquired in 1954 by Charles H. Wimberly of Chicago, IL
  • Out of documentation in 1964
  • Fate unknown.
