SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser: Laid down 14 April 1942 as PC-1039 by the Rice Brothers, Rockport, TX; Launched 28 July 1942; Commissioned USS PC-1039, 15 October 1942; Reclassifed SC-1039, 8 April 1943; Transferred to the Maritime Commission 9 February 1948; Sold 7 July 1948 to Teraco Packing Inc. of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and named Norking; As of April 2008 she is for sale for $70,000 (Canadian).
Specifications: Displacement 95 t; Length 110'; Beam 17'; Draft 6' 6" (fl); Speed 21 kts.; Complement 28; Armament one 40mm gun mount, one or two twin mount .50 cal. machine guns, two or three dcp "K Guns", 14 depth charges with six single release chocks, two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles; Propulsion two 800bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
