SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 28 April 1942 as PC-1048 by Ventnor Boat Works Inc., West Atlantic City, NJ
  • Launched 12 December 1942
  • Reclassified SC-1048 and commissioned 9 April 1943
  • Rescues survivors from tanker Bloody Marsh, 3 July 1943 that was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-66 the previous day while en route from Houston, TX to New York and landed them at
    Charleston, SC
  • Visited Auckland, New Zealand between 19 - 30 November 1944
  • Decommissioned 6 December 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 3 January 1946
  • Transferred to the Maritime Commission 10 November 1946
  • Acquired in 1947 by the Atlantic Refining Co. of Philadelphia, PA and named Atlantic 112
  • Operated in 1959 under the Indonesian flag
  • Fate unknown.
