SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 28 July 1942 as PC-1266 by the Quincy Adams Yacht Yard, Inc., Quincy, MA
  • Launched 9 November 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-1266, 13 February 1943
  • Reclassified SC-1266 in April 1943
  • Participated in the invasion of Vella Lavella, Solomon Islands in August 1943
  • Suffered blast damages 29 January 1945 after Serpens (AK 97) was sunk by explosion of undetermined origin at Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands
  • Decommissioned 30 November 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 19 December 1945
  • Transferred to the Maritime Commission 2 April 1948
  • Acquired in 1963 by Daniel E. Huff of Sacramento, CA for use as a fishing boat and named Ponderosa
  • Acquired in 1975 by Adrian A. Hylton of West Sacramento, CA
  • Scrapped in 1977.

  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 3"/23 mount, one 40mm mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Guns," two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
