SC-1288 served the Navies of the United States and Brazil

SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 27 July 1942 as PC-1288 by W. A. Robinson, Inc., Ipswich, MA
  • Launched 24 December 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-1288, 12 February 1943
  • Reclassified SC-1288 in April 1943
  • Transferred to Brazil 19 May 1943 and named Jacuí (CS 57)
  • Rescued 37 survivors, in company with Jundiai (CS 58), ex-SC-1289 off the Brazilian freighter Pelotasloide that was torpedoed 4 July 1943 by the German submarine U-590, five miles north of
    Salinas, Brazil
  • Reclassified J-7 after World War II
  • Decommissioned in 1951
  • Fate unknown.

  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 3'/23 mount, two 20mm mounts, two Mousetrap depth charge projectors, two K-Gun depth charge projectors and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
