SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 27 July 1942 as PC-1288 by W. A. Robinson, Inc., Ipswich, MA
  • Launched 24 December 1942
  • Commissioned USS PC-1288, 12 February 1943
  • Reclassified SC-1288 in April 1943
  • Transferred to Brazil 19 May 1943 and named BZ Jacuí (CS 57)
  • Rescued 37 survivors, in company with BZ Jundiai (CS 58), ex-SC-1289 off the Brazilian freighter Pelotasloide that was torpedoed 4 July 1943 by the German submarine U-590, five miles north of
    Salinas, Brazil
  • Fate unknown.

  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Gun," two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 1,540bhp General Motors (Electro-Motive Div.) 16-184A diesel engines, two shafts.
