SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 7 September 1942 as PC-1300 by Perkins and Vaughn, Inc., Wickford, RI
  • Reclassified SC-1300 in April 1943
  • Launched 8 May 1943
  • Commissioned USS SC-1300, 3 July 1943
  • Transferred to the Maritime Commission 4 March 1948
  • Sold to Frederick B. Wrege and went into operation 3 July 1949 as F/V Effort
  • Ownership passed on to Charles VanderVort in 1961
  • Scrapped in 1970.

  • Displacement 958 t.
  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17' 9"
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 21 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, one/two twin mount .50 cal. machine guns, two/three depth charge projector "K Guns", 14 depth charges with six single release chocks, annd two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four
    7.2 projectiles
  • Propulsion: Two 800bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
