SCC-1316 served both the U. S. Navy and Army.


SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 18 August 1942 PC-1316 by Julius Petersen, Nyack, NY
  • Launched 11 March 1943
  • Reclassified SC-1316 in April 1943
  • Commissioned USS SC-1316, 19 June 1943
  • Reclassified as a Control Submarine Chaser, SCC-1316, 20 August 1945
  • Struck from the Naval Register 20 March 1946
  • Transferred to the Army 11 December 1946
  • Sold, converted to a fishing vessel and named Helen E
  • Beached on the North Spit 5 March 1951, north of the entrance to Coos Bay, OR
  • Set on fire after attempts to salvage her failed.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 95 t.
  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6" (fl)
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, one/two twin mount .50 cal. machine guns, two/three depth charge projector "K Guns", 14 depth charges with six single release chocks and two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap
    rails with four 7.2 projectiles
  • Propulsion: Two 800bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
