SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 16 December 1942 as PC-1332 by the Simms Brothers, Dorchester, MA
  • Reclassified SC-1332 in April 1943
  • Launched 17 July 1943
  • Commissioned 6 August 1943 under the command of LT Dayton O. Newton, USNR
  • Decommissioned 25 January 1946
  • Struck from the Naval Register 26 February 1946
  • Transferred to the Maritime Commission 6 July 1948
  • Acquired later in 1948 by the Duval Engineering and Contracting Co. of Jacksonville, FL for use as a wrecker and named Dinky
  • Acquired in 1956 by Maxey D. Moody, Jr. of Jacksonville for use as a fishing boat
  • Acquired in 1958 by Port Arthur Menhaden Products, Inc. of Sabine Pass, TX
  • Acquired in 1960 the Texas Menhaden Co. of Sabine Pass
  • Scrapped in 1967.

  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Guns," two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
