SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 21 October 1942 as PC-1341 by Rice Brothers, Rockport, TX
  • Launched 14 January 1943
  • Reclassified SC-1341 in April 1943
  • Commissioned USS SC-1341, 25 May 1943 at Rockport
  • Served in South Atlantic and Caribbean in anti-submarine warfare, patrol and convoy duty
  • Reclassified as a Control Submarine Chaser, SCC-1341, 20 August 1945
  • Served in Central and North Pacific by directing waves of landing craft to the beach. Participated in the liberation of the Philippines. Participated in the landings at Kerama Retto in the Ryukyu Chain, as well as Okinawa on April 1,
    1945. Participated in the occupation of Japan
  • Decommissioned 1 October 1945 at Lake Union, Washington
  • Struck from the Naval Register 26 February 1946
  • Disposed of 4 February 1947.

  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6"
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, two .50 cal. machine guns, two depth charge projector "K Guns," two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four 7.2 projectiles and two depth charge tracks
  • Propulsion: Two 880bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
