SC-497 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Laid down 21 October 1942 as PC-1342 by Rice Brothers, Rockport, TX
  • Launched 16 January 1943
  • Reclassified SC-1342 in April 1943
  • Commissioned USS SC-1342, 9 August 1943
  • Disposed of 3 July 1946
  • Found abandoned in December 1977 on the St. Croix River in Wisconsin by Richard Lindsay of St. Paul, MN
  • Salvaged, fully restored and retained the name SC-1342.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 95 t.
  • Length 110' 10"
  • Beam 17'
  • Draft 6' 6" (fl)
  • Speed 15.6 kts.
  • Complement 28
  • Armament: One 40mm gun mount, one/two twin mount .50 cal. machine guns, two/three depth charge projector "K" guns, 14 depth charges with six single release chocks and two sets Mk 20 Mousetrap rails with four
    7.2 projectiles
  • Propulsion: Two 800bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts.
