SC-1627 built for The Netherlands.

SC-1627 Class Submarine Chaser:

  • Built under Off Shore Procurement under the terms of the Military Defense Assistance Pact. Built to a Netherlands design, similar to American SCs in characteristics but different in appearance
  • Laid down 12 September 1953 as SC-1627 by the Rijkswerf Willemsoord, The Netherlands
  • Launched 24 February 1954
  • Completed 9 August 1954, transferred to The Netherlands and named Balder (P 802)
  • Struck in 1985 and scrapped.

    Specifications:

  • Displacement 169 t.
  • Length 119'
  • Beam 20'
  • Draft 6.2'
  • Speed 15.5 kts.
  • Complement 27
  • Armament: One 40mm mount, three 20mm mounts, one mousetrap, two depth charge racks and two k-guns
  • Propulsion: Diesel engines, two shafts.
