Howards served both the U. S. Navy and Coast Guard.

Patrol Yacht:

  • Built in 1913 at Essington, Pennsylvania
  • Acquired by the Navy 11 June 1917
  • Commissioned USS Howarda (SP 144), 19 June 1917 at Key West, FL
  • Struck from the Navy list 31 March 1919
  • Transferred to the Coast Guard 1 July 1919 and commissioned USCGC Vidette
  • Fate unknown.

  • Displacement 38 t.
  • Length 75'
  • Beam 16'
  • Draft 3' 4"
  • Speed 9 kts.
  • Complement: Six (Coast Guard)
  • Armament: One 3-pounder
  • Propulsion: Steam, two shafts.
